Method: This flat weave design is woven in organic cotton using a pit loom and is created by interlocking warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads. Rugs woven using this method do not have a pile and are reversible. A pit loom is literally hung over a pit dug out of the ground, and provides a comfortable seating position for the weaver. The pit creates ideal conditions for cotton weaving as it responds much better to humid conditions, preventing the yarn from becoming brittle and snapping.
