As we sit in our chilly Kent office surrounded by fabric, we’re dreaming of sunnier climes and all the amazing architecture, interiors and textiles which come with them.
Being design fanatics, one of the first things that come to mind (after warm sandy beaches) is the vibrancy and pattern found in Asian textile design. Thought to have originated in China over 4,000 years ago, block printing is one of the most popular printing methods widely used throughout South Asia and one which has remained a traditional skill.
As designs are carved out of wooden blocks, they're covered in paint and carefully pressed onto stretched fabric. Not only does this require a lot of patience and skill, but it also needs a steady hand!
