The Embroidery Touch

The Embroidery Touch
Whether embroidery is done by hand or machine, it adds an element to any piece of material that instantly lifts the design. Like hand printing, embroidery has been included in textiles from the invention of needles and thread.
I look at three of our Haines Curates designers who included very different embroidery styles to their work.
NICHOLA TAYLORSON
Nichola Taylorson is a London based textile designer who creates bespoke furnishing fabrics handprinted and embroidered by a small group of artisans in Jaipur; as Nichola puts it, ‘Modern textiles with traditional techniques.
MAHALA DESIGN
Mahala is inspired by ancient art and traditions, celebrating her love for natural materials, craftsmanship and colour. She employs local artisans to apply traditional embroidery methods to natural linen using Better Cotton.
DUO HUE
Duo Hue was founded in lockdown by Amelia Ayerst. She creates digital embroidered textiles using scraps of material and waste sourced from other designers and brands. These fabric offcuts are then built into little cushions made to order, so there is no waste.
