There are plenty of DIY headboard projects out there, but have you ever wanted to give headboard upholstery a go? Well, you're in luck, as Jules shares her top tips for upholstering a headboard at home.
1. Choose your fabric - something that will stand the test of time and fit with the headboard shape and size. If the bed is larger than a double, you may need to add a border at each end or railroad the fabric (turn it on its side) to cover the width of the headboard.
.
2. Does the headboard need any extra TLC? Add foam and remove any buttons if needed.
3. I always recommend adding a layer of wadding over the original headboard (not essential), but it will cover any bumps and leave an even surface for the fabric to really shine.
.
4. Iron your fabric and lay it face down on a flat surface, making sure any design is central. Place the headboard on top, pull tight and get stapling! I usually start from the top to the bottom, then the sides.
.
5. Taa daa you're done! Don't cut down too much fabric yet, you can always go back over with the staple gun (and remove any staples!) if needed. Once you're happy, trim away, stand back and admire your handiwork!
