Description
Taken from the pattern book of a London “furnishing printer” of the early nineteenth century (Dudding & Company, 1802-14), this design reflects the Regency love of the exotic. The design finds its origins in the painted bamboo of Chinese export wallpaper, but was transformed by the Regency designer into an allover stripe suitable for block-printing in two colours. A proof on paper from the printer’s pattern book was used as the source for this version which preserves the nuance of the original hand-printed texture.
