The Half Tester

We've got bed envy over Jules' homemade half-tester. Crafted from Haines surplus fabrics and a reclaimed, antique front panel she picked up at The French House in York, it's the focal point of the room.

“Being born in the 80’s, I'm naturally drawn to the current trend of more is more. I've always loved a bed canopy, so it was a key item on my 'Dream Bedroom' Pinterest board.

I’m not sure why but I felt compelled to make it myself just to prove that I could do it. I tackled the half tester with the help of some brilliant advice from Haines’ Instagram community and a book I found on ebay, an Encyclopedia of Curtains.”

The Bed

How could we not mention this showstopper of a bed? Handcrafted by the amazing team at Naturalmat, it's made from responsibly sourced timber and organic materials and upholstered in one of Jules’ favourite fabrics, Lost and Found by Christopher Farr (surplus, of course).
All of Naturalmat's products are made by hand at their workshop in Devon. Since 1999, they've been pioneering sustainable sleep solutions combined with beautiful design. Find out more about their recent collaborations and their approach to sustainability here.

Considered Colour

Colour can be a little daunting for some, but it can really impact the cosiness in a bedroom setting.

"I was mindful to work with what I already had in the room and choose colours that went well together, using the bed as the starting point for my colour choices. I like to combine three complementary colours in a space. Here, I’ve used different shades of blue throughout the room, adding highlights of orange to reflect the piping on the headboard."
